About Us
In the fall of 2006, our three five-year old children (Aidan, Sam and Bela) joined an introductory co-ed hockey program. It seemed an obvious choice for Aidan and Sam to play, since both their fathers are devoted hockey fans and players. We were all surprised when Bela, not wanting to be outdone or left behind, decided to join the program too.

We will never forget the look on Bela’s face when she first saw the big, bulky, black pants she would be required to wear. We were sure Bela would change her mind, believing hockey wasn’t really for young girls. There was nothing in her large hockey bag, stuffed with equipment, that seemed to encourage her to try this unfamiliar sport.

This was when the idea of BelaHockey was born. Why couldn’t we design a line of hockey gear and apparel designed exclusively for girls?

To make this happen, we teamed up with one of the world’s greatest female hockey players, Cammi Granato. In 1998, Cammi lead the U.S. Women’s Hockey Team to win a gold medal in the Olympics. Her participation and enthusiasm for women’s hockey opened the doors for many young girls to participate in a sport primarily reserved for boys. Cammi began playing organized hockey in kindergarten at a time when women's ice hockey didn't exist. She played with the boys through high school, going on to become one of most talented female athletes on blades. Cammi is a role model for girls around the globe attempting to go against the grain and try a sport primarily reserved for boys.

It is our hope that Cammi’s achievements and Bela’s determination will encourage many young girls to give hockey a try. The BelaHockey line of gear and apparel designed exclusively for girls, is the first step in letting the world know that hockey is not just a sport for boys anymore.
